Employer Branding – Understanding the depth and why it’s importance to the Organization
Describe "Employer Branding."
A systematic approach to attracting and retaining top talent from the fiercely competitive labor market and creating a positive work environment, employer branding primarily reflects the company's reputation.
According to Lybrand and Dewar (2023), managing the company's individual cultural features to attract candidates is known as employer branding. When the organization's goal is to be a great place to work, part of that involves improving the hiring process, enhancing employee engagement, and promoting retention, as well as committing to employee benefits and maintaining a high-quality work environment for employees.
One significant approach used by organizations to attract and retain talent is employer branding. Ensuring existing and potential workers understand the company's value proposition and promoting their loyalty and satisfaction is part of this. Strategies that assist in retaining employees and attracting top talent in human resource management and employer branding tactics include financial packages, creative workspaces, social responsibility initiatives, career opportunities, and promotions. Singh (2021).
What is the Importance of Employer Branding to an Organization?
Attracting top talent:
According to Nur Muhammad Sirojuddin and Sopiah Sopiah (2022), job seekers focus their decisions on views of the community and prior interactions rather than knowing a company's branding plan. Businesses need to be more careful about influencing employees' opinions by communicating their branding goals clearly to attract top talent. Employer branding plays an important role to attract talents from the competitive job market and keeps the organization in the competitive position in the job market.
At an international summit in Singapore, Brandix Lanka Ltd., a prominent garment exporter from Sri Lanka, was recognized as Asia's "Best Brand" and "Best Employer Brand." This honor highlights Brandix's commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture, which increases its demand for top talent in the competitive job market. (Knittingindustry.com, 2025)
When a company has a positive employer brand, it helps to attract job seekers who are a good fit for the organization. This will help to reduce recruitment costs because employers would rather not spend much time attracting suitable candidates.
At 2024 Sri Lanka Best company Brand competition, Siyapatha Finance PLC, a prominent company in Sri Lanka, took home the "Best Employer Brand" honor. This honor validates Siyapatha Finance's dedication to establishing a productive workplace, encouraging employee retention, and drawing in candidates that align with the company's values in order to save hiring expenses. (DM Editorial, 2024)
Improving employee retention:
Alzaid and Dukhaykh (2023) investigated the connection between employee retention and company branding and came to the conclusion that it is a powerful predictor of employee retention. Thalgaspitiya (2020) investigates the connection between employee turnover and employer branding elements. The results highlight the significance of workplace branding in employee retention efforts by showing a correlation between lower turnover intentions and higher perceived value in employer branding.
The research investigates the connection between the quality of employer brand and improved employee retention in Sri Lanka's telecommunication sector. It identifies factors making employees more attractive and the facilitating effect of job satisfaction. The study finds that dimensions of employer brand, such as economic, social, interest, and reputation value, significantly affect knowledge employee retention. (Jenitta, 2021)
A strong employer brand improves the company's reputation both internally and outside. Satisfied workers spread the positive talks about the company, which will affect attracting top talents. And on the other hand, a strong employer brand can enhance the customer trust in the organization's products and services. This influences the company's revenue growth as well.
With the well-established employer brand, the organization can stand out in a highly competitive job market. This will help to differentiate the company from the competitors to attract more valuable top tales.
Conclusion
A key method for reducing hiring expenses, enhancing company culture, and attracting top talent is employer branding. Increased employee satisfaction and long-term retention result from it. Business reputation, recruiting, and retention are all impacted by employer branding, as demonstrated by case studies from Sri Lanka. Employer branding provides businesses with a sustained competitive edge in a highly competitive labor market. Attracting top people and establishing a strong market position are achieved via effectively communicating values and fostering a stimulating work environment.

DeleteHi Wasana, Thank you for your comment. When organizations maintain a good employer brand, they don't have to spend too much money on the recruitment process. Practically, candidates are more impressed with work in a company with an EVP (Employee Value Proposition). AS an example, in the garment industry, most of the candidates are dreamed to be a part of Brandix or MAS, at least they want to get an experience in the work culture which these companies maintain and of course they have good EVP., so companies have successfully created their employer brand to stand in a top place in the job market to attract and retain the employees.

ReplyDeleteAlthough the notion of employer branding is clear, the conversation may be improved by including more academic viewpoints. Backhaus and Tikoo (2004), for example, point out that employer branding includes both external (company reputation) and internal (employee experience) components, all of which are essential to the long-term survival of a firm. Employer branding would be understood more comprehensively if this viewpoint were included.
Hi Anjali, Thank you for the insights. I would like to add more to your highlighted point which is Employer brand includes both external and internal components,
DeleteExternal components we can talk like,
• Maintaining a good EVP such as benefits, culture and opportunities; these should be consistent - like Great place to work
• A strong online presence is also more important; companies should share good content about the company culture and values, which attracts internal and external followers
Internal Components also like
